This is an original multi-hourglass timing stand patented on January 12, 1915, by Ralph Reed Spears of the Spears & Riddle Co. based in Wheeling, West Virginia. Antique 1915 Spears & Riddle Co. Multi-Hourglass Sand Timer – Wheeling, W.VA   Up for sale is a rare, historically significant piece of West Virginia industrial history. This is an original multi-hourglass timing stand patented on January 12, 1915, by Ralph Reed Spears of the Spears & Riddle Co. based in Wheeling, West Virginia. Long before launching their famous Fleet-Wing oil empire, Spears & Riddle manufactured these unique mechanical and novelty lifestyle items.   The dark frame is clearly and deeply stamped on the side: Spears & Riddle Co. Wheeling W.VA along with its original vintage retail price of Price $2.00.   Design & Mechanics: This unit features a modular, friction-fit drop design. The individual glass capsules rest inside round, early hard-plastic/Bakelite independent base collars, allowing the remaining bulbs to spin completely free when turned.   Condition Notes (As-Is / For Restoration): Features four (4) of its original, intact glass bulbs with original sand. Missing the smallest (5th) glass timer bulb. The dark frame shows a beautiful, authentic aged patina with light surface wear consistent with a 100-year-old object. No cracks or chips to the four remaining glass capsules or the plastic base rings. This is an exceptional piece for collectors of rare timepieces, Ohio Valley industrial advertising, or early 20th-century patent novelties.
