Seiko Pulsar "SeikoSar" Built Y513 Quartz Diver Watch Men 7002 7009 Vintage 42mm While this is technically a Franken-watch, I see it more as a "what if" watch. -Y513 cal is a workhorse. -Original 7002 7009 with original factory finish. Chamfers are razor sharp. There is a pretty good ding on the side case (see pics) but that's for character. Meet SeikoSar. While this is technically a Franken-watch, I see it more as a "what if" watch. What if there was a dimension in which Pulsar made a gold dialed diver (something they did quite often) using Seiko's iconic Slim Turtle design.Since Seiko's earliest use of the "slim turtle" architecture that would go on to be seen in the inimitable SKX was the Seiko 7548 quartz diver launched in 1978, it's not too much of a stretch.Pulsar would absolutely have used their own near identical version of the 7548, the Y513. The early days under Seiko's ownership saw Pulsar using a lot of left over Seiko parts. What if the quartz diver never took off? What if those leftovers were handed down to Pulsar like so many other parts? Is that how the "S" signed crown found its way in there? Maybe. The specs:-Original 7002 7009 with original factory finish. Brushing on top case looks like it's still in the store. Chamfers are razor sharp. There is a pretty good ding on the side case (see pics) but that's for character.-Caseback and Hardlex crystal are original to the case as well. -Y513 cal is a workhorse. I've had the watch it came out of for nearly a decade and it's always run perfectly. I recently converted that watch to a 6309 and rather than put the movement away I decided to let it keep ticking. It came from a diver and so it goes into a diver.-Dial is from a 1979 gold Pulsar dress watch and was chosen because like I said, Pulsar loves a gold dialed diver.-Ceramic astrology bezel insert has no significance except that it looks dope.-Bracelet is a Forstner Model J with milled glide lock clasp. If you aren't saavy, give it a search on the Yahoos. I get it, automatic watches are sexy. I'd argue that quartzes from the classic era with architecture that satisfyingly fills a watch case and doesn't have to be worn constantly or set or put on an auto-winder, are just as hawt. This has been a fun build but maybe it's time for the next one. The only downside to this watch is that the movement hasn't seen a full service since 2010. My ability is such that I can service it, but I may break a few things in the process. Given that modern oils were likely used for the 2010 service and it's been running top notch, I'm going to let it be. But I feel it's something any potential buyer should know.Questions? Holler.
