Vintage Blandford S.A. / Squale Ocean Diver 25 Atmos Automatic – Squale Y1545 – ETA 2783A relatively uncommon Blandford S.A. / Squale Ocean Diver 25 Atmos automatic dive watch from the early-to-mid 1970s. The dial is co-branded Blandford S.A. and Squale, while the watch is built around Squale's Y1545 case and powered by the correct ETA 2783 automatic movement.During the 1960s and 1970s, Squale supplied dive watch cases to a wide range of manufacturers, from well-known names such as Blancpain, Doxa and Heuer through to much smaller private-label brands. Blandford S.A. was one of those customers, and co-branded examples like this don't appear for sale very often.The watch features a blue fumé sunburst dial, original black and red "Pepsi" bezel and original handset, including the distinctive orange minute hand and paddle-style centre seconds hand. The Y1545 was one of Squale's professional dive watch case designs introduced during the 1970s and supplied to several brands. Modern Squale's current 1545 collection traces its lineage back to this case design.Specification Blandford S.A. / Squale co-branded blue fumé sunburst dial Genuine Squale Y1545 stainless steel case Squale screw-down caseback with shark logo ETA 2783 Swiss automatic movement with 25 jewels and quick-set date function Date display Original acrylic crystal 25 Atmos / 250m rated case Approximately 18mm lug width ConditionOverall, the watch is in honest vintage condition with the sort of wear you'd expect from a watch that's around fifty years old.The blue fumé dial is one of the nicest features of the watch, changing from a deep navy to a bright metallic blue depending on the light. It's complemented by the original orange minute hand, paddle-style centre seconds hand and black and red "Pepsi" bezel, giving the watch exactly the look you'd expect from a quality Swiss diver of this period.The stainless steel case has the usual marks from use but still retains its original shape and sharp lines. The screw-down caseback is clearly engraved with the Squale shark logo together with the Y1545 case reference, 25 ATMOS, 825 FEET and MOD DÉPOSÉ markings.There is also a faint six-digit number (127063) stamped into the side of the case opposite the crown. As far as I can tell, this is an original factory-applied case number rather than a later inventory or service mark.The ETA 2783 movement is clean and is shown in the photographs. The watch is currently running well, winding, setting and changing the date correctly.The crown is unsigned, probably a replacement, and functions as it should.As with any vintage dive watch, I would assume the seals are no longer suitable for swimming or diving unless they have been replaced and the watch has been professionally pressure tested.BraceletThe watch is fitted with a vintage Zodiac stainless steel bracelet.It isn't original to the watch, but it is a genuine Swiss bracelet from the same era and, in my opinion, suits it far better than a modern replacement.
