This original piece showcases the craftsmanship of the late 19th century and is a unique collectible for any antique or clock enthusiast.I don't know if the folks who made these clocks back in the day named these cherubs and other characters, but I've named this one Tommy, and we see Tommy a lot. Tommy's working hard as usual; on this piece he's holding ribbon up out of the way so that we can all see what time it is...and we sure do appreciate his hard work.This piece came to me so filthy that I gave it a bath in the ultrasonic cleaner. Now, we can see the real patina; the one that only time and touch can create. Most of the bronze plating is gone from this piece, which is common for smaller clocks that have lots of intricate details; nooks and crannies that hold onto lots of finger oils, as well as dead skin and dirt and dust. Years of winding deteriorate the plating, and each time the clock is wound, oil is deposited, and plating or other metal is removed, which is why your hands smell like metal after you do such things. The clean copper will now develop a tarnish of a clean, rich brown color, like an old penny; not dirty or green with corrosion, especially since this piece won't be getting touched a lot these days. The new quartz movement means reliable service, without winding. A new LR44 battery is included.Please look closely at the photos to see the condition of the piece, which is excellent antique used condition.
