F97699~ C.1920s Eastman Kodak Pinhole Box Camera – Photographer Katherine Conlen She was on the photographic staff of the yearbook (Techmila 52) and staff photographer of the RIT Reporter. After graduation. Each kit given had to be constructed by the child. This original board is commonly missing – this one is attached with two pieces of original construction tape – see photo. DESCRIPTION – This is the Kodak Pinhole Camera designed by Frederick W. Brehm for 3 x 4 inch sheet film.  Very Uncommon.  Please note this has the original film backing board.  This original board is commonly missing – this one is attached with two pieces of original construction tape – see photo.  According to McKeown’s Guide to Antique and Classic camera, these were given to school children during the 1920s for use as a science project.  Each kit given had to be constructed by the child.  The child would assemble the box, cut the front opening for the pinhole paper, place the black pinhole paper over the opening (inside or outside), create a pinhole using a No. 10 needle, and attach the pinhole cover (rotating cardboard piece) to the front of the camera.  PREVIOUS OWNER - This example has the name of the previous owner – Katherine Conlen.  If I am correct, Katherine A. Conlon of Geneseo, New York, was a 1952 graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) – she was in the Photo Technology Department.  She was on the photographic staff of the yearbook (Techmila 52) and staff photographer of the RIT Reporter.  After graduation. She worked in the photographic department at Bausch and Lomb Co. PLEASE NOTE – if you intend to try this camera, the small square of black “pinhole” paper that covered the cut front opening fell off at some point – see old glue/adhesive remnant around the front opening.  It is common to find this camera with damaged or missing pinhole paper.  This listing includes two small sheets of vintage black paper (from dry plate box) so you can add a pinhole.
